Athens’ drive-in cinema to open on June 1
Nothing like a bit of retro magic to set us in the mood for summer. Social distancing might be a downer, but not if it brings back childhood memories of drive-in cinemas. Athens’ new drive-in theatre is slated to launch on June 1 along with open-air cinemas.
The corona pandemic has changed the face and fate of many a business in its wake, completely redefining our entertainment landscape. Theatres, cinemas, museums and concert halls have borne the brunt of lockdown and social distancing laws and may barely recover from the crippling blow this pandemic has visited upon them.
As in any crisis, innovation holds the key, or, if that fails, revisiting old solutions dating back almost a century might be the answer! The entrepreneurs behind Athens Drive-In did just that by reviving a trend that was wildly popular in the 1950s and 1960s. For now, their website just has a countdown ticker to the launch date with few details on the venue of the Athens Drive-In and invites the public to enter their details to secure one of the first places in the cinema.
