Best-selling author Alex Michaelides comes to Greece to launch The Fury!
Literary sensation Alex Michaelides is back in Athens to launch his brand-new thriller, a dazzling whodunit, The Fury (Celadon and Dioptra in Greek), his third, after his breakout hit, The Silent Patient (2019), and The Maidens (2021). The Fury sets itself apart by adding a dose of old Hollywood glamour and intrigue — not surprising, as Michaelides began his career in screenwriting. In Michaelides’ ingeniously intricate third novel, he reinvents the timeless locked-room mystery with a twist. As reclusive former movie star Lana Farrar extends an invitation to her secluded island, she unwittingly sets the stage for a tumultuous cascade of resentments, desires, and ultimately, murder
Alex Michaelides’ The Silent Patient catapulted him straight to number 1 on the New York Times Bestseller list, making him the only ever British debut writer to do so! He’s followed it up with The Maidens, about an exclusive set of students at a University, under the influence of a sinister Professor, and a murder he knows more about than he lets on. In Alex Michaelides’ The Fury, we are transported to a fictitious Greek island Aura, complete with a cast of characters and of course, a murder. Growing up in Cyprus, Michaelides says he was deeply influenced by the intense atmosphere of small island life, where emotions are heightened in a confined space. Translating this sense of drama into his book, he skillfully captures the claustrophobic yet captivating environment of Aura. What distinguishes The Fury from his other psycho-thrillers, is its inventive narrative structure and the captivating perspective of its narrator, Elliot Chase. Eerily ambiguous and irresistibly unreliable, Chase leads readers through a labyrinth of deception, revealing secrets and unraveling a chilling tale of murder amidst a backdrop of subterfuge. With deft sleight of hand, Michaelides masterfully intertwines his personal journey of self-discovery to deliver a gripping tale of suspense and psychological depth.
Alex Michaelides will be in Athens for the Greek launch of The Fury (Το Μένος, Dioptra, 2024, translated by Clairy Papamichail-Laina) with a book signing and presentation on Tuesday, April 2 at 20:30pm at Public Syntagma (Karagiorgi Servias 1). He will be joined by Max Pounentis and Panos Dimakis. He travels to Thessaloniki on Wednesday, April 3 at 19:00 at the Konstantinidis bookstore (Mitropoleos 92). He is joined by Cynthia Sapika.
