Three generations at Christakis
Christakis, the gentlemen’s clothing and tailoring shop in Kolonaki is the kind of place that feels like you need a time machine or a Swiss bank account to enjoy. Finding out that the bespoke tailoring and personal service is available in this day and age and at the kind of prices that us mere mortals can enjoy is a real treat. Run by two charming brothers, Christos and Adonis, although under the watchful and expert eye of their mother, Vicky, the business is on the third generation at the store in Kolonaki. Founded in in 1947 by the original Christos, nicknamed Christakis, hence the name of the business, it initially focused on handmade shirts which are still a core part of the business. With twenty-two personal measurements and observations, these shirts are a work of true personalisation and will last a lifetime.
Christakis gradually branched out to cover the smarter end of men’s clothing and now can cover the majority of a gentleman’s wardrobe. The cuts on offer tend to the timeless and Christakis aims to make clothes that last, eschewing the siren call of fashion to stick to what they are good at and what every man needs. Apart from the aforementioned shirts, there are a range of knitwear, trousers, blazers, suits and overcoats, as well as all the accessories the discerning gentleman can shake a cane at.
The pajamas deserve a special mention which are still made from the shirt fabrics. The quality of the cut combined with the fabric makes it a shame to keep them for home use only. This place is a real pleasure.
