Raphaela Simon at Michael Werner

Raphaela Simon at Michael Werner

What: The Michael Werner Gallery in Athens will host a dynamic array of exhibitions, featuring works from both established artists in its program and secondary market pieces by artists not permanently represented. One of the standout shows is Raphaela Simon’s solo exhibition The Thief. Simon’s painting process is an act of surrender—allowing her works to evolve naturally, taking on their own meaning. She rejects the notion that art must be driven by logic or intention to achieve icon status. Instead, she embraces intuition and emotion, crafting deeply personal and intimate pieces. As Simon explains, her work does not begin with a fixed image, object, or idea. It’s the interplay between form and content that fuels her creativity, resulting in works that balance the figurative and the abstract—two seemingly opposing forces that, in Simon’s eyes, are symbiotic. “I need both, as they feed each other,” she says, reflecting her belief in the tension between these elements that makes her art so compelling.

When: March 1 to June 7, 2025.
