Two celebrated creatives usher in a new season of fine dining at Mykonos Theoxenia’s Apanemi restaurant
Celebrated chefs Jerome Serres and Yiannis Baxevanis come together at Mykonos Theoxenia’s Apanemi restaurant to add a little bit of shine to the island’s dining scene.
It is a scientific fact that magnums make meals more fun, so I was primed for a good experience when I arrived at the Mykonos Theoxenia Apanemi chef’s table event in Athens, and saw an ice bucket groaning with oversized bottles of Estate Argyros’s excellent Assyrtiko Santorini. I wasn’t disappointed as the culinary collaboration between celebrated chefs Jerome Serres and Yiannis Baxevanis continues to deliver.
The playful menu was a celebration of Mykonos and of Greek seasonality. Zucchini flowers were paired with a rich and satisfying shellfish bisque, with the two familiar elements brought together and bringing the best out of each other.
Fibrant green beans were presented against a backdrop of wonderfully earthy notes with summer truffles, wild mushrooms and even a potato ice-cream, the contrasting temperature of components drawing further thought, and palate, provoking contrasts. The baked island seabass was another winner. The fish was cooked to perfection, set but giving to the folk and the dish was garlanded with a tuile in the shape of a laurel crown for a pleasing bit of theatre. This dish, combined with another tip of the bottle from the attentive staff, meant for a memorable evening.
