When Sundays went from being a Drag to Dragalicious

Its all rainbows and sparkles at Shamonette, a bar that transforms Athens’ gay scene from its ‘wait-until-its-dark’ image to a bustling daytime hangout.

Lazy Sundays in the city have been given a kick in the behind thanks to new hotspot Shamonette and her draq queen heels. The erstwhile adopted daughter of the ever-popular and packed club Shamone, this comfort bar has added lip-syncing draq queens to it’s Sunday brunch menu. Open from midday onwards on Sundays, you can now get a side of glamorous kitsch and a spray of glitter with your peinirli, fried eggs or Nutella and biscuit pancakes.

Opened by Fotis Sergoulopoulos and Vaggeli Gerasimos of Artisanal and Shamone fame, this colourful and cozy corner is intended to be a weekday after work meeting point thanks to its rainbow project cocktails, variety of Greek and vegetarian finger foods and uplifting DJ beats. Whether you’re wanting to have your cake and eat it, or you’re more of a beautiful people-watcher this open-to-all, welcoming and heady atmosphere will entice you to come back for more and more.[
